1. Who is responsible?
The controller responsible for processing personal data in connection with SnapCalo is [Full legal name / company], [Domizil address, postal code, city, Switzerland]. Privacy questions and requests can be sent to snapcalosupport@gmail.com.
2. Scope
This Privacy Policy applies to the SnapCalo mobile application for iOS and Android, the SnapCalo website, and support communications. SnapCalo is a nutrition-tracking tool that uses artificial intelligence and nutrition databases to estimate foods, portion sizes, calories, and macronutrients.
3. Data we process
| Category | Examples | Purpose |
|---|---|---|
| Meal input | Food photos, gallery images, typed food descriptions, and transcribed speech input | To identify foods and estimate portions, calories, and macros |
| Nutrition and progress data | Meals, food components, calorie and macro values, meal diary entries, body weight, water, steps, goals, and progress information | To provide the tracking and progress features selected by the user |
| Subscription information | Anonymous app-user identifier, entitlement status, product, purchase status, and renewal information | To verify and provide Premium access; SnapCalo does not receive complete payment-card details |
| Technical and usage information | Request timestamps, endpoint usage, success or error status, model usage, app/device identifiers used for limits, and diagnostic information | Security, abuse prevention, usage limits, reliability, troubleshooting, and cost monitoring |
| Crash and diagnostic data | Crash reports and technical error information made available by the operating system, app store, or integrated diagnostic services | To diagnose failures and improve stability |
| Support and feedback | Email address, message, correction details, app/device information, and information voluntarily included in a report | To answer support requests and improve analysis quality |
SnapCalo currently does not require a conventional personal account. Please avoid uploading photos that contain people, documents, addresses, payment details, or other sensitive information unrelated to food analysis.
4. How meal analysis works
When you request an image or text analysis, the relevant photo or text is sent to the SnapCalo backend. Images may be resized, rotated, and compressed before analysis. The backend uses AI to identify visible food components and may compare results with nutrition databases and web sources. The resulting nutrition information is an estimate and can be corrected by the user.
Temporary image files used by the backend are deleted after processing. App data such as saved meals, thumbnails, goals, and progress information may also be stored locally on your device according to the app's functionality and settings.
5. Purposes and legal bases
We process information to provide requested app functionality, perform meal analysis, save and display user-selected tracking data, verify subscriptions, prevent misuse, enforce usage limits, maintain security, respond to support requests, and improve reliability. Depending on the circumstances and applicable law, processing is based on performance of the service requested by you, your consent, compliance with legal obligations, and legitimate interests in operating and securing SnapCalo.
6. Service providers and data recipients
SnapCalo uses third-party services where necessary to provide the app:
- OpenAI — AI processing of food images and text for food identification and structured nutrition analysis.
- Render — hosting of the SnapCalo backend and related server-side processing.
- USDA FoodData Central — nutrition database searches and reference data.
- Serper / web search sources — external food and nutrition searches when database matching is insufficient or when a user requests web search.
- RevenueCat — verification and management of Premium subscription entitlements.
- Apple App Store and Google Play — purchase processing, subscription management, store distribution, and platform diagnostics.
- Resend — delivery of feedback or support-related emails when the backend email function is used.
These providers process data under their own terms and privacy policies. Data may be processed outside Switzerland or the European Economic Area. Where required, we rely on appropriate contractual or statutory safeguards for international transfers.
7. No sale, advertising, or cross-app tracking
SnapCalo does not sell personal data. The current app is not designed to use personal data for third-party advertising or to track users across unrelated apps and websites. If this changes, this policy and the relevant App Store and Google Play declarations will be updated before the change is introduced.
8. Storage and retention
- Temporary backend image uploads are deleted after the analysis request is completed.
- Saved meals, nutrition data, progress entries, and related app content may remain on the user's device until deleted in the app, the app's data is cleared, or the app is uninstalled.
- Server-side usage, security, rate-limit, cost, and diagnostic records are retained only for as long as reasonably necessary for their operational purpose and applicable legal obligations.
- Support emails and feedback are retained for as long as needed to address the request, document a resolution, improve the service, or satisfy legal requirements.
- Subscription records are retained by Apple, Google, RevenueCat, and SnapCalo as required to verify access and comply with financial or legal obligations.
9. Security
We use reasonable technical and organizational safeguards, including encrypted network transmission, access controls, limited backend access, request limits, and abuse-prevention measures. No online system can be guaranteed to be completely secure.
10. Your rights and privacy requests
Depending on applicable law, you may request access, correction, deletion, restriction, objection, or a portable copy of personal data, and you may withdraw consent where processing relies on consent. Because SnapCalo does not require a standard account, include sufficient information in your request to help us locate relevant support, feedback, subscription, or technical records without sending unnecessary sensitive data.
Requests can be sent to snapcalosupport@gmail.com. You may also have the right to lodge a complaint with the competent data-protection authority. In Switzerland, this is the Federal Data Protection and Information Commissioner (FDPIC).
11. Children
SnapCalo is not directed to children below the minimum age required to consent to data processing in their country. We do not knowingly seek to collect personal data from children without the authorization required by applicable law.
12. Website data
The current SnapCalo landing page is designed as a static website and does not intentionally set advertising cookies or operate behavioural analytics. The hosting provider may process standard connection information such as IP address, browser type, requested URL, timestamp, and security events to deliver and protect the website.
13. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy when SnapCalo, its providers, or legal requirements change. The current version and update date will always be published on this page.
